The New Home of Riverside Garden

On Tuesday, July 26th, 2022, Wichita City Council members voted to approve a 5-year lease of the lot at 802 Amidon to Riverside Garden (Wichita Gardens, Inc). This is wonderful news for the members of the Riverside Garden, and we are hearing that many people in the new neighborhood are looking forward to our move to this location.

It is bitter-sweet. The garden has been in its original location (917 Riverside Ave) for six years now and has enjoyed the friendship and support of the neighbors there. During the next few months, the garden board and others will begin preparing the new property and moving items from the original property. We have big plans for our new spot – plans that will require a great deal of fundraising and volunteering. If you are able and would like to help the garden grow in its new home, please contact us – any assistance you can provide will mean so much!

Some of the items we will be planning and raising money for are:

• A wrought iron fence to provide safety for and protect the hard work of those who garden there
• A greenhouse – to extend the growing season, foster a neighborhood pollinator program, and to be able to offer plant starts to gardeners and neighbors
• Fruit trees and berry bushes – to provide more to local food assistance programs
• A 3-tier public drinking fountain – for adults, children, and pets
