About Riverside Garden

Riverside Garden is a community space for individuals to rent a garden bed to grow the plants they choose. The property spans two city lots at the corner of Murdock and Amidon in Wichita KS, and became this garden’s second home in the summer of 2023. The land is leased from the city of Wichita.

It is a perfect sunny place for the flowers and vegetables planted to thrive in the more than 30 raised and in-ground beds. You may find large squash, tomatillos, 8-foot tall okra stalks, a plentiful variety of tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes, rainbow Swiss chard, giant zinnias, fragrant basil, and bee-filled cucumber beds.

Riverside Garden is more than a place for individuals to feed themselves. To support our community, there is a large covered pergola with seating, used for neighborly “Coffee & Dirt” get-togethers as well as educational meetings. It is the best place to sit in the rain and enjoy the garden. The garden shed hosts 2 murals, painted by neighborhood artists, and the lively painted benches on the property are a welcoming spot to stop and recharge.

The garden also designates space to grow food for the community. We donate to ICT Food Rescue through the Sedgwick County Master Gardeners’ Plant A Row program, and to the animal ambassadors at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit. In our first year alone, we donated nearly 1,200 pounds of produce. We also tend a community herb bed and a share station to share produce, seeds, and information with our neighbors.

In 2024 we hosted the Riverside Pollinator Project, planting native pollinators in our easement and at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit in Central Riverside Park.  We gave away hundreds of plants and seeds, in partnership with the Wichita Bee City initiative and the Riverside Neighborhood Association.

We think you’ll love what we are creating. Stop by and enjoy.
